Ruth was born on May 12th, 1911.  Ruth's father was Ben Pirtle Stiles and her mother was Eleanor Hurst.  Her paternal grandfather was Charles Valley Stiles and her paternal grandmother is Ellen Neff.  She had four brothers and two sisters, named Burch, Charles, Ben, Joseph, Lena and Ida.  She is the third oldest of the seven children.
