William was born on February 15th, 1886.  William's father was David Elias Shipley and his mother was Ellen Miller.  His paternal grandparents were Randolph  Selmon Shipley and Somira Ellen Stiles.  He had a brother and two sisters, named Edmund, Cora and Gertrude.  He is the third oldest of the four children.
