William was born on March 14th, 1858.  William's father was Randolph  Selmon Shipley and his mother was Somira Ellen Stiles.  His maternal grandparents were David Stiles Jr. and Melory Goodman.  He had six brothers and six sisters, named David, James, Joe, Robert, Charles, John, Bettie, Minerva, Sally, Cora, Maggie and Laura.  He was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at 7 months old on November 11th, 1858.
