Robert was born on April 8th, 1868.  Robert's father was Randolph  Selmon Shipley and his mother was Somira Ellen Stiles.  His maternal grandparents were David Stiles Jr. and Melory Goodman.  He had six brothers and six sisters, named David, James, William, Joe, Charles, John, Bettie, Minerva, Sally, Cora, Maggie and Laura.  He was the nineth oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 81 on November 23rd, 1949.
