John was born on May 20th, 1900.  John's father was Charles Shipley and his mother is Minnie Taber.  His paternal grandparents were Randolph  Selmon Shipley and Somira Ellen Stiles.  He had four brothers named Justus, Paul, Charles and James.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 3 on February 26th, 1904.
