Joe was born on November 4th, 1859.  Joe's father was Randolph  Selmon Shipley and his mother was Somira Ellen Stiles.  His maternal grandparents were David Stiles Jr. and Melory Goodman.  He had six brothers and six sisters, named David, James, William, Robert, Charles, John, Bettie, Minerva, Sally, Cora, Maggie and Laura.  He was the fifth oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 67 on October 26th, 1927.
