James was born on January 8th, 1916.  James' father was Matthew Shipley and his mother is Ethel Downard.  His paternal grandfather was James Lewis Shipley and his paternal grandmother is Alice Emma Peverly.  He had a brother and a sister, named Robert and Mary.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 58 on December 31st, 1974.
