Gertrude was born on October 31st, 1880.  Gertrude's father was David Elias Shipley and her mother was Ellen Miller.  Her paternal grandparents were Randolph  Selmon Shipley and Somira Ellen Stiles.  She had two brothers and a sister, named William, Edmund and Cora.  She is the second oldest of the four children.
