David was born on March 20th, 1853.  David's father was Randolph  Selmon Shipley and his mother was Somira Ellen Stiles.  His maternal grandparents were David Stiles Jr. and Melory Goodman.  He had six brothers and six sisters, named James, William, Joe, Robert, Charles, John, Bettie, Minerva, Sally, Cora, Maggie and Laura.  He was the oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 61 on February 23rd, 1915.
