Bettie was born on October 18th, 1854.  Bettie's father was Randolph  Selmon Shipley and her mother was Somira Ellen Stiles.  Her maternal grandparents were David Stiles Jr. and Melory Goodman.  She had seven brothers and five sisters, named David, James, William, Joe, Robert, Charles, John, Minerva, Sally, Cora, Maggie and Laura.  She was the second oldest of the thirteen children.  She died at the age of 79 on July 9th, 1934.
