Arthur was born in 1911.  Arthur's father is Lucien McKay Shipley and his mother is Mable Caldwell.  His paternal grandfather was Joe Lucien Shipley and his paternal grandmother is Hammie McKay.  He has a brother and a sister, named Gerald and Mable.  He is the youngest of the three children.
