Thomas was born on April 11th, 1907.  Thomas' father was Thomas Louis Pirtle and his mother was Laura Thomas Shipley.  His maternal grandparents were Randolph  Selmon Shipley and Somira Ellen Stiles.  He had two brothers named George and Guy.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 66 on December 7th, 1973.  His burial was in Smithland City Cemetery, Smithland, KY.
