Owen was born on December 26th, 1887.  Owen's father is William H. Bunger and his mother was Bettie Ann Shipley.  His maternal grandparents were Randolph  Selmon Shipley and Somira Ellen Stiles.  He had two brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Randolph, Mary, Mabel, Nettie, Ethel and Maggie.  He is the sixth oldest of the eight children.
