Octie was born in August 1890.  Octie's father was Liston G. Townsend and her mother is Mary Ann Willett.  Her maternal grandparents were Darius Willett and Mary Ann Carter.  She has two brothers and seven sisters, named John, William, Ona, Lizzie, Liddia, Tabitha, Berthie, Cora and Annie.
