Stiles was born on November 6th, 1843.  Stiles' father was Elijah Bland and his mother was Corrilla Willett.  His maternal grandparents were Griffith Willett and Rhoda Stiles.  He had three brothers and three sisters, named William , George, Joseph, Rhoda, Annie and Mattie.  He was the oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 4 in 1847.
