Herbert was born on March 15th, 1918.  Herbert's father was Stiles LaRue Tarpley and his mother is Catherine Dixon.  His paternal grandparents were Hines Tarpley and Rebecca Stiles.  He had a half-brother and four half-sisters, named James , Iodonna, Beatrice, Marilyn and Lydia.  He died at the age of 70 on April 19th, 1988.
