Kitchell was born on September 16th, 1819.  Kitchell's father was Lewis Stiles.  He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Ogden, LaFayette, Martin, Susan, Mary, Sarah, Caroline, Minerva, Rebecca and Martha.  He was the third oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 65 on August 27th, 1885.
