John was born on January 9th, 1932.  John's father is Henry Hardin Peterson and his mother was Lena Ford.  His paternal grandfather was Wesley Wallace Peterson and his paternal grandmother is Vienna Miller.  He had two brothers and three sisters, named Owen, infant son, Julia, Laura and Mary.  He is the oldest of the six children.
