Katherine was born in 1899.  Katherine's father was Lapsley C. Ewing and her mother was Annie Tarkington.  Her maternal grandfather was Joseph  Maxwell Tarkington and her maternal grandmother is Susan Caldwell.  She had three brothers and three sisters, named Warren, Hubert, Lapsley, Julietta, Elizabeth and Nancy.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 77 in 1976.
