Rolla was born on July 6th, 1882.  Rolla's father was James Riley Stiles and his mother was Mary Mildred Jackson.  His paternal grandfather was Demas Stiles and his paternal grandmother is Tamson Bazzill.  He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, John, George, Fred, Lizzie, Clara, Maggie and Ethel.  He is the fifth oldest of the nine children.
