James was born on September 2nd, 1847.  James' father was Demas Stiles and his mother is Tamson Bazzill.  He had three brothers and four sisters, named Francis, Charles, George, Mary, Arabella, Sallie and Eliza.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named David, Henry, John, Demas, William and Nancy.  He died at the age of 80 on September 28th, 1927.
