Hugh was born on February 20th, 1885.  Hugh's father was Demas Stiles Jr. and his mother is Elizah Doyal.  His paternal grandparents were Demas Stiles and Margaret Ann Owsley.  He had three brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Walter, William, Lee, Josie, Lida, Ellen and Mary.  He is the fifth oldest of the nine children.
