David Thomas Stiles

David was born on September 21st, 1829. David's father was Demas Stiles and his mother was Margaret Ann Owsley. He had four brothers and a sister, named Henry, John, Demas, William and Nancy. He is the oldest of the six children. He had four half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James, Francis, Charles, George, Mary, Arabella, Sallie and Eliza.

General Notes
- He was born in a part of Hardin Co., Ky, that is now LaRue County. When he was 10 years old, he went with his father to Missouri to settle on open prarie, the land on which now stand the town of Windsor. In 1848 when he was 19 years old, he went with his brother, Henry, to California to seek their fortunes in mines. He returned home by way of the Isthmus of Panama in 1852. (Henry remained in California and died there). On August 2, 1862, he joined the Southern Army under Cockrell's command and was in some of the firecest battles of the Civil War; at war's end, he set sail for home on the steamboat, "Old Kentucky", which sank in the Red River. He survived and finally reached home. He became a successful farmer and stockman in his late years. He resided in Windsor, MO
