Alvin was born on April 19th, 1929.  Alvin's father was Charles Bailey Stiles and his mother is Lola B. Meloy.  His paternal grandfather was Demas Stiles Jr. and his paternal grandmother is Elizah Doyal.  He had two brothers and five sisters, named Charles, Walter, Viola, Ina, Hazel, Eva and Lola.  He is the seventh oldest of the eight children.  He had three half-sisters named Lillian, Edna and Grace.
