Bess was born on August 31st, 1898.  Bess' father was Albert Ben Stiles and her mother was Mary Caroline Whipple.  Her paternal grandparents were Lewis Fisk Stiles and Mrs Martha Settle Tanner.  She had two brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Cassius, Lottie and Ruth.  She was the second oldest of the five children.  She died at the age of 95 on June 8th, 1994 in Calhoun, Ky.
