James was born on February 25th, 1952.  James' father is James Alexander Quirk and his mother is Mary Catherine Donahue.  His paternal grandfather was Alexander Johnson Quirk and his paternal grandmother is Lizzie Tanner Porter.  He had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Daniel, Mary, Margaret and Julia.  He is the oldest of the six children.
