Lewis was born on October 25th, 1897.  Lewis' father was Frank  Virgil Porter and his mother was Nannie Chris Stiles.  His maternal grandparents were Lewis Fisk Stiles and Mary Parker Thomas.  He had a brother and five sisters, named James, Mary, Lizzie, Carrie, Eva and Helen.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 71 on November 13th, 1968.
