James was born on October 16th, 1955.  James' father is Fleming Ashton and his mother is Bessie Gertrude Thomas.  His maternal grandparents were Charles Louis Thomas and Beulah  Rodgers.  He has a brother and two sisters, named Charles, Helen and Barbara.  He is the third oldest of the four children.
